Is Ivermectin Only for Livestock? - Quinn Diaz

Ever wonder what chemicals affect you in your everyday life. Ever wonder if these chemicals are actually safe to consume or touch. Chemicals are included in our everyday lives including chemicals that may have to remedy to cure a painful disease.
If you are a person who is around livestock or horses on a daily basis, you may notice that your dewormer is not just one simple ingredient that gets rid of parasitic worms. There are multiple ingredients in them in which some include the chemical ivermectin. This is a chemical that stimulates excessive release of neurotransmitters in the peripheral nervous system of the parasites. It is used on mainly horses and cattle but can also be used with sheep and dogs. The dosage for dogs must be extra small when given orally because it is so strong and the barrier between the dogs brain is not thick enough, which then causes the medicine to get into the brain and damage the dog. It is given to a horse usually twice a year orally. The proper dosage for a horse depends on their weight. It is also used on cattle, but it is not ingested, it is placed on top of their fur and is absorbed by their skin. Dealing with these types of chemicals makes you extra cautious when washing your hands afterwards in case any of it got on them, you would not want to ingest it yourself without making sure it was safe to do so.
Ivermectin is completely safe for humans to take, but only if the person has the river blindness disease. Other uses for this drug are not recommended. The dosage for a human is 150mcg/kg and may be repeated every three to twelve months. After ivermectin is consumed the person may experience some side effects because you are experiencing a reaction to the dying parasites, which would include vision changes and swollen or red eyes. Ivermectin is one of the few drugs that they have found to treat river blindness, but it has been successful in helping to cure this terrible disease.
Sometimes looking into the chemical materials that you are using on an everyday basis can be interesting and help you handle those products properly.
