Have you seen a frog that has more than four limbs? Or have you ever
thought that it’s possible for a frog to grow more than four limbs? Well, it is
happening the frogs that are there in the forest are growing more limps that
the normal frog should have. This first happened in Minnesota. And the cause of
this malformation is the pesticide they used to stop the growth of insect which
is the Methoprene.
Have you heard
this chemical? This chemical is not only used to stop the growth of mosquitoes,
but it’s also used to kill fleas that your pet might have. Methoprene is not
harmful to us or to our pets. The only living things that it can harm are the
amphibians because they lived in bodies of water, where it is most commonly
sprayed. We might be aware that amphibians like frog do lived in bodies of
water and we can cause a great impact to the growth of these amphibians because
they will come to a contact with this chemical.
"Insect masses like fireworks explode.
Dengue, Malaria, West Nile Virus:
Discomfort, despair will fill your abode.
This is what your life will be without
us."
--Frog Poetry by Michael Dutton
Many of us probably haven’t thought of this or
are not worried that this might have a great impact to us. Most people don’t
see the importance of these frogs because they seem useless in our environment.
But according to a study frogs are important in the food web. Most frogs eat
insects that are carrier of disease like malaria, which is fatal to us. Frogs
are also a food source to other mammals in the forest. Frogs are also used in many medical
researches because of their skin secretion that might be able to refine our
health. If frog is important in our
environment we should let them live like a normal frog should be, with four
limps. To help the frogs we can used
these; Oil lemon Eucalyptus, Essential Oil, Picardie and Citronella spray, this
are some of the alternatives that we can used to kill mosquitoes without
damaging any other amphibians.
